Freedom Fighters – Guide/Play-through [ver. 1.0.0.]

I remember back then when I was enjoying different games, old games, good games, filled with action and interesting stories and since I missed some of them, I decided to look up some of my old favorite games and replay them. One title that is situated among them is Freedom Fighters. A good story, graphics look a little bit terrible, but I don’t seek only graphics in games, therefore – games should be enjoyed.

SPOILERS/HINTS/DETAILS/GUIDES from this point further.

Freedom 2017-08-20 13-06-31-71
Developed in 2003 by IO Interactive and published by EA (Electronic Arts) – Freedom Fighters takes you into an alternative reality and an imagined historical period – in which the Soviet Union occupied New York City. You are a simple plumber, Chris Stone working along with your brother Troy, when you have to take a job inside Isabella Angelina’s apartment, an activist from a group fighting against the soviets.

Another crappy Monday it seems at first, until you reach the apartment and find it empty. Not long after that, a group of Russian soldiers led by General Tatarin enters the building asking about the female activist.

Freedom 2017-08-20 13-12-24-39

– [game starts here] –

you have the third person view of your character, you can move around, crouch, jump and attack. [keys W, A, S, D, Ctrl, Space bar].

– you are equipped with a wrench [default item/weapon in various games like Prey, Bioshock, Half Life, Doom].

This is the very first weapon you find in the game, you first use it to beat a Soviet soldier to death in a Apartment Block hallway, freeing many hostages, along with the mysterious ‘Mr Jones‘. It has a good attack and can be used for more stealthy kills, but loses almost all use later in the game except for opening manhole covers and prison gates.

General Tatarin orders the destruction of the apartment – you will have to hide not to be hit by the bullets storming down from one of the helicopters outside. Exit the apartment building and take down the soviet soldier in the hallway. You save the civilians and one of them – Mr. Jones – will take you to a safer place, assisting you in taking down the soldiers that will attack you.

– gained Pistol [8/15 rounds] on the rooftop after exiting the hallway.

After you escape to the roof along with Jones, who kills an unsuspecting Soviet Soldier allowing you to climb up and claim the pistol for yourself, as soon as you run along a second roof a Soviet Helicopter deploys troops, allowing you to kill them at your leisure. It is a fairly weak weapon, useful only in tight situations in the game were you may run out of ammunition for a specialized weapon. It holds a 17 round magazine with a maximum carrying capacity of 60 rounds and resembles the Beretta M9 pistol, a side-arm that is not standard issue in the Russian military.

Freedom 2017-08-20 13-15-50-38

At this point you can climb up on different parts of the rooftops and observe the panic below – people running and trying to hide from the tank attacking the street and the helicopter creating frustration and distress.

By climbing down some stairs you will have the chance to take out a group of three soldiers. You can use the environment to your advantage. Shooting a barrel will cause and explosion and the death of the enemies. Also shooting cars will have the same effect.

– gained Medic Kit – restores health points to the character, also can be used to heal a wounded person or a wounded recruit. By healing other NPCs you gain charisma points and with more charisma that you have, the more squad members you can recruit – with a maximum of twelve.

– exit into the street and move along the distresses NPCs, following Mr. Jones.

– rescue Bagzton and receive +25 points of charisma.

– gained Molotov Cocktail before exiting the next building.

First used by the Finnish against the Russians during the Russo-Finnish War (Also known as the Winter War), the Molotov Cocktail is the first explosive used in game, and is the most common explosive in the whole game, its only other explosive being the hand grenade and the C4. It works fairly well, able to burn enemies (as well as the player if he is caught in its flame) to death with 1-2 Molotov’s. It is only used by the player and one Freedom Fighter during the opening invasion of Governor’s Island. The total number of Molotov cocktails carried at a time is 10.

By eliminating the rest of the soldiers in your way – you end up in a dead-end with a manhole which can be used to get to safety into the sewers under the city. You can open manhole covers to get to the underground base, to quick-save or to change locations on your map.

You assist to the first news broadcast after the recent events – from which you learn that the soviets and here to restore peace and stability to the troubled country that America is in the game’s present.

– enter sewer base. This is a safe zone, used for planning the next moves and storing equipment. You get your first two missions.

Freedom 2017-08-20 13-25-51-97
– gained Assault Rifle after entering the Post Office Area.

A standard issue kit piece found with both rebels and Russians alike, the assault rifle is a direct descendant of the original AK-47 and serves as the standard infantry rifle of the Soviet Armed Forces. It is either an AK-74, the 47’s replacement in Soviet service starting in 1974, or an AK-101 or AK-103, both of which were designed and adopted in the 1990s’s. A reliable all-purpose rifle, the assault rifle can be found at the Post Office and the Police Precinct early in the game, and appears constantly until the end. The assault rifle has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds and a carrying capacity of 180 rounds. Fully available to the player for use, it is used almost universally by regular Soviet troops, while stolen and captured stocks are also frequently being turned against the Soviets by Rebel forces. A few Soviet Security Forces members are seen carrying it, along with two Soviet Commandos in the cut-scene that plays when Chris Stone returns to find the main Rebel base captured.

At this point you will need C4 to destroy the fuel tanks in this area.

The C4 is a very useful weapon, however its only purpose is in demolitions objectives. These targets include, yet are not limited to helipads, bridges, and generators. You can carry only 4 on your person.

Visiting the Police station area you will encounter a group of cops battling some snipers. By blowing up the fuel tanks you will also get rid of the snipers. By using the subway tunnel in the Police station area you will manage to fight your way into the station, eliminate the soviet soldiers and rescue Isabella.

A good strategy here is to hide around a corner and use Molotov cocktails on the soldiers coming your way, since they tend to form groups and then come towards you. This way you can eliminate multiple targets at once. Also using the environment seems to help you complete the mission.

– gained shotgun inside the Police station.

The strongest weapon in the game, the Combat Shotgun has a magazine of 8 shells and a maximum carrying capacity of 80 shells. Its weapon spread is the highest in the game, reducing accuracy greatly with range. The weapon is the first two handed weapon the player can get from his sewer base. Both the player and rebels use it. Only Soviet officers are seen with it, though occasionally a Soviet soldier can be seen with it too. It is modeled off the SPAS-12 shotgun.

I don’t quite use this weapon in this game, but I prefer it when battling zombies in some other titles [Half Life, Left4Dead]. After clearing the underground parking lot, the main lobby and the first two floors of the Police Station, you get to rescue Isabella Angelina and rise the American flag on top of the building, completing the mission. Below are my stats of the mission.

Freedom 2017-08-20 14-41-21-55
Continuing with the game you will have to regain control, over the region of the Post Office. You can recruit two Freedom Fighters and order them to attack the soldiers ahead. High places are good for strategic maneuvers and also for observing the actions of the enemies, observing infiltration points and making routes for a better counter-attack. In this mission you also save your brother who was taken hostage.

Completion of each mission takes you back to the safe house in the sewers.

Android Game: War And Order

War and Order is an online Android fantasy-strategy game that I’ve been playing for a few days now.

screenshot_20170102-215219It is quite addicting, and it lets you built a city, recruit soldiers, gather resources, battle monsters and other players, get involved in raids and research different technologies to make your civilization more powerful.

The graphics look decent, at the beginning of the game you can build and evolve faster for free but then you will have to spend amounts of time waiting for buildings to be completed or resources gathered. But all-in-all is a very interesting game.

You also have a Lord with different skills that help improve your civilization.

As stated on Google Play, War and Order is a game in which:

Orc Knights, Elf Sages, Dragon Riders, and other incredible warriors are waiting to fight for your empire! Raise a massive fantasy army for HUGE, spectacularly animated battles! Axes fly, dragons roar, and fireballs sizzle as you clash with enemies from all over the world in real-time. Call on your allies to rush to your aid on horse- and lizard-back. S.O.M.A. Guide – Part 4 – Battle for Continuity

At Omnicron – the protagonist will have to transfer into a new body, in order to survive the descend into the abyss. You have to find a power suit, a new cortex chip, structure gel and a battery pack.

This is a dramatic moment – since the transfer into the new robot is only about you getting copied and the old Simon will continue live. Being two versions of the same person into one place gets to Simon – who will have to decide whether he will or not drain the batteries of his former self.

Soma 2016-08-14 12-34-57-19

At Omicron you will also encounter a manifestation of the WAU – who will help you get to the next checkpoint. His reasons for this are unknown for the moment – but you can always think about the fact that he wants to infest the ARK, making his survival a sure thing.

Soma 2016-08-14 12-44-21-18

When you descend into the abyss – he will say that he will make preparations for your arrival. The bottom of the ocean is a harsh environment and monster lurk above you – but finally, with perseverance you will get to site Tau. Following a set of blue lights is the key to finding the right path.

S.O.M.A. Guide – Part 1 – Upsilon Confusion

[spoilers ahead]

So.. I decided to play S.O.M.A. again. A taste of survival horror, elements of cyberpunk, a game filled with puzzles, interesting dialogues and a profound exploration of the human and non-human intellect.

After a car crash – Simon Jarrett  – deals with brain damage, his brain starts bleeding now and then. Seems that various treatments do not work for his condition so he decides to seek further available options for prolonging his life. His condition could be fatal if a cure is not found. So – he gets in contact with a facility that could scan his brain in order to develop a more suitable treatment. Unfortunately this treatment has no efficiency and as later told in the game, Simon finds out he died almost 100 years ago and that he is able once again to function because the brain scan he did was used as a template for an A.I. model – him waking up on Pathos-II facility.

6AV4RNfA

PATHOS-II is an underwater research facility located in the Atlantic Ocean during the 2100s. It is the primary setting of both SOMA and the live-action prequel mini-series and film Transmission and Depth.

It was initially built to conduct thermal mining during the 2060s and, later, developed the Omega Space Gun. It has a diverse staff of scientists and engineers involved in multiple research projects such as marine sciences, hydroculture, and deep sea construction. An artificial intelligence known as the WAU was used to oversee primary operations of the facility.

When a comet impact in January 2103 rendered the surface of the Earth barren and killed all surface life, the staff of PATHOS-II became the last living humans on the planet. Knowing they would not be able to survive indefinitely, they began searching for alternative ways to extend their lives and ultimately, save what remains of the human race – the ARK program being among them. Not much is known about the events that followed, but eventually machines previously operated remotely by humans began to become self-aware and started to exhibit human traits. The facility eventually descended into the nightmarish state seen during the events of the game.

Opening your eyes, waking up alone, trapped in darkness. That is how the horrifying story of SOMA really starts. You wake up in the Upsilon site – which  contains the facility’s primary power generation plant. Geothermal boreholes are used to generate electricity. Upsilon also contains extensive facilities used to service and maintain PATHOS-II’s collection of robots and Universal Helpers.

Soma 2016-08-13 15-12-55-14You start exploring these dark rooms, hearing distant weird noises and seeing shadows that disappear an re-appear. You find how to work with the Omnitool.

The Omnitool is a small handheld computer, originally used by PATHOS-II’s staff to open doors and access areas requiring maintenance. It has two chip slots: one for a Tool Chip, which grants additional functions and security clearances, and one for a Cortex Chip, which is used to download an A.I. into the Omnitool. If no Cortex Chip is inserted, the Omnitool has a pre-loaded AI (“Helper Jane”).

The cortex chip can also contain a brain scan, granting it the personality and memories of the person scanned. The Omnitool lacks the necessary computational resources to run brain scan simulations on its own, and must be docked to a terminal in order to do so. Catherine Chun describes this experience as a continuous, but disjointed consciousness with no perception or awareness of the time that passes in between simulations.

The Omnitool cannot be used to override security protocols that it lacks the clearance to access. In these cases, a new Tool Chip must be inserted to update the Omnitool’s security clearances.

The Omnitool can be operated either by swiping it in front of a sensor or by directly docking it to a computer terminal. The latter option allows the brain scan on the device’s Cortex Chip, if present, to directly interface with the PATHOS-II mainframe.

Soma 2016-08-13 15-46-43-12Moving further in the game you make contact with several robots who don’t even realize they are robots. At first, even Simon sees himself as being human, being normal. But slowly things start to change perspectives. He first makes contact with Catherine Chun who will direct him from site Upsilon to site Lambda, in order to discover further truths about this research facility. You are being attacked by a Construct.

This creature appears to be a horrific jumbled mess of a UH3 Universal Helper maintenance unit and WAU techno-organic growth. Structure Gel mutations have given the Helper a much bulkier build, with a bigger backside and more reinforced structure, as well as added functionality, allowing the Helper to make use of a pair of legs to navigate. Along with the small lights emitting from the numerous bulbous growths on its body, the Helper casts a bright beam from the front of its face, acting as a spotlight to assist with navigation through dark areas.

Soma 2016-08-13 16-05-27-65You get to explore the bottom of the ocean – wondering how are you going to find the right way to the next checkpoint. You rescue a little Universal Helper which will show his gratitude by offering you access to a block door in order to continue. You discover that the machines are taking control over the humans lost in this abandoned place and they will not let them die. It is a sign that the A.I. in this place, the master brain of the disaster wants everything to be fully functional, no matter what.

Finally you get to site Lambda only to discover that Catherine is also a brain scan trapped into a computer. But will all that, she will be the protagonist’s companion and will offer useful tips and information.

Nintendo [imported from JapFun blog]

This article was supposed to be written a long time ago… and certainly was [in 2010]. It was imported from an older blog of mine, but has a certain note that pleases me and I wanted it to be on this blog as well.

This will be about the early days of my gaming experiences. And of course that period was perfect for the Nintendo games…first games that I played.

I never owned a Sega console but a Terminator one…you know the Terminator 6.0 [most successful NES clone – having yellow cartridges].

These game consoles very pretty popular in central european countries in the 90s. I was like 8-9 years old back then…and the Terminator game console is the main reason I wear glasses these days. I fucked up my eyes staying all day long in front of the TV. Anyway…back to the subject.

I still spend many hours on gaming, but back then, gaming was something that every kid of my age was in love with. First thing I remember about gaming is that once I’ve put my hands on the console…the world was mine.

In the left you have an example of NES clone I’ve grew up with. The joypads were often poor-manufactured so every week I had to buy new ones. I think that the first game I ever played in my life was Duck Hunt [I’m not very sure]. Or it was another shooter…the one with the cowboys [hmmm]. Anyway…Shooters brought me into the world of video-games.

Next was Super Mario Bros…my all-time favourite game in the whole world. Remember that melody and the character…Mario Rocks!!!

Super Mario Bros is an arcade-action game…featuring two players: Mario and his brother Luigi. The game has 8 main levels with 4 sub-levels each.

I remember that I used to finish a game and continue with it like 3-4 times. Once you’ve completed the game..some of the enemies changed and you could play the game again. Super Mario Bros was extremely pleasant for me to play in the morning. I was up earlier than usual and immediately I was playing Mario. Funny things is that even before I started to write this article I played this game till level 7. [using an emulator of course. I do not own a NES clone anymore].

Okay…about the other games I played. Well, names like Robocop, Tank, Cobra, Tom and Jerry, Dr. Mario became very popular in no time.

A game I really enjoyed was Double Dragon 2. The fighter that you controlled was sent in missions all over the world and you had to fight and fight with many enemies. Almost each level had a BOSS. I remember that when we were out, me and some friends used to talk about how we won that level and what we did next. Kabuki, another arcade-action game was pretty cool that time. The warrior had as the main weapon his hair.

One of the games I used to play using the two-player menu was Tank. Each level had a number of enemy tanks that I had to destroy. [speaking of that I must search this game an play it again].

Besides the joypads..the Terminator game console had a pistol. Games like Duck Hunt and the other two western-themed shooters were played with this pistol.

Because the games weren’t originals but all of them pirated, they came in with a message: 999,999 in 1. Most of them were the same games with just a little bit of modification. Mario for example…had a Godmode game, a flying type game, limited lives and so on.

We used to borrow games from one another. I remember receiving a tennis game when I shared my Fifa ’98. Fifa got me from the first match I ever played. Spending many hours on this game was like a daily ritual for me. I was too good to lose a match.

Another game I loved was something related to a Ninja warrior. I had to climb up buildings and kill other ninjas.

Anyway…those happy moments are gone…only thing that I can do right now is to revive those games with emulators [something that I’ll surely do].

My childhood was great…and I fucking miss it!

[Anime] Etotama

So… I remember when I used to watch various anime shows and get very excited with the stories and the development of the characters. Good days.. Listening to their soundtracks and playing games in the summer, drinking ice coffee while watching horror shows at night, blogging about what I saw, reading other blogs, not giving a fuck about the cold, harsh reality :))

73586l

I really miss that. I previously wrote in an article how much I miss that and now I said what the hell.. why shouldn’t I start all over with it. Of course my interest in anime is a bit diminished by other things that are on my mind and my work and my other hobbies – but since this is what I really enjoy – I will start writing again about it.

Recently I’ve watched Etotama. Not a very good show.. actually it is very childish and too colorful but I needed something funny to watch. It is about a battle of self-proclamation. Nyaa-tan – the Cat as a symbol in astrology wants to become part of the Chinese Zodiac. In order for that to happen she needs the seals of the other Zodiac member and battle is the way to go.

It is action-oriented, but when the battle starts the characters transform into the Pretty Mode (Disturbing Little Moe Figures That Some Know Them As Chibi) and it ruins the show. Anyways – the anime is actually funny. It is not the smartest one out there but if you want to learn about getting things done and true friendship – this might teach your children a lesson.
